Matlab installation on AMD – processor based platforms

Did u recently installed MATLAB on your AMD processor basedcomputer and run into some problems? Just follow the following steps to prevent the MATLAB startup crashes.

Step 1

Find out the blas.spec file  in the MATLAB installation current directory. It is located at

(where %MATLAB% is the path to your Matlab installation)

Step 2

Open the blas.spec file in some text editor lke notepad and just add the following two lines into it

AuthenticAMD Family 15 Model 12 atlas_Athlon.dll # Athlon 64 (Newcastle)
AuthenticAMD Family 15 Model * atlas_Athlon.dll # AMD64

Step 3
You are done. Now begin programming in MATLAB.

Detail analysis on the problem
The problem stems from your CPU being unrecognized by MATLAB's configuration file. All CPUs have some identifier string and MATLAB uses this to identify the DLL file to be used. When an unidentified CPU identifier string is encountered, it apparently defaults to using a PENTIUM DLL and this results in MATLAB system crash when it runs on an AMD-64 based system. This problem will encounter only on MATLAB 7 or lower versions.
